Real CEOs don’t send electronic Christmas or Holiday greeting cards because they’re just not sincere or respectable forms of greeting or business building. Electronic Christmas cards are not even mental gifts because the effort required to create them is close to zero. When you get an electronic Holiday greetings card, you think about that person for all of the 3 seconds it took to see the email, look at the nice picture, and delete the message. When it’s sent during the holidays, we’re lucky if that greeting card gets 2 seconds.
If you’re a CEO and you want to send your business partners a note they won’t forget, send a surprise note or card. Send the note off schedule or when it’s not the time to expect one. Imagine getting a Happy New Year note from the CEO of your vendor, during the first week of January. How would such a note read?
“Dear Client,
It’s already a New Year and your business is already booming. Congratulations to you and your team!
We’re proud that you’re our partner and we look forward to making sure your 2010 continues to be a success.
Sincerely,
CEO and the team
Wow, that little snippet read like it actually took more energy and brains than “Happy Holidays”! Those guys really took some effort. Let’s neither forget them nor their CEO.
